Sheet Vinyl
This is a layered flooring that is sold in 6 foot and 12 foot lengths. It comes in a broad range of colors, designs and textures and mimics the look of natural materials such as stone, hardwood and ceramic tile. For more creativity and due to today’s print technology, you can also get sheet vinyl designs that are not available in the nature. It is extremely resilient and requires very little maintenance. It’s water resistant so it can be installed just about anywhere. Some other factors to consider, however, are that it won’t increase the value of your home, it’s easier to rip or gouge and you must allow for contraction and expansion.
Vinyl Tile
This is one of the most economical and easiest floors to install. They come in different sized square shapes and also in luxury vinyl tile plank shapes to replicate the look of hardwood floors. All of the tiles are available in wide variety of shapes, colors, sizes and designs and allow for simple installation. Just like sheet vinyl, the tiles are very low maintenance and are most popular in kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms and playrooms. Some factors to consider are they don’t last as long as ceramic tile, linoleum or hardwood. Dirt can also accumulate in the seams and they don’t add value to the home.
Cove Base
Cove Base flooring is very economical and attractive. It’s often used in commercial settings and stand up to the rigors of commercial traffic. It won’t fade, crack or chip and it holds up well under tough conditions. It’s available in a wide selection of colors and designs.
VCT – Vinyl Composition Tile
VCT is one of the largest selling resilient floor products. It is used commercially and is inexpensive to buy and fairly easy to install. However, installation is extremely important because a poor job is greatly evident because mistakes are highly visible such as gaps, bumps and cracks. The installer must be acutely aware of proper floor preparation, moisture, alkalinity and a several other factors.
